Amarillo is the 14th largest city in Texas, as well as the largest city in the panhandle area. Located in Potter County and partially in Randall County, the city is found near the middle of the panhandle. The city is the regional center of the panhandle area in Texas and is also a big part of the economies of Eastern New Mexico and the Oklahoma panhandle area.

The major industries are beef supply (25% of the entire country’s), petroleum extraction and the helium industry. Amarillo’s association with the beef industry has earned it the nickname the Cattle Feeding Capital of the World. The single largest employer in the city is Tyson Foods, followed by the Amarillo Independent School District and BWXT Pantex.

Other industries of note include diverse businesses like precious metals refining, aircraft production and agriculture. In fact, there are about 14 million acres reserved for agricultural purposes like ranching and harvesting.
