Engine Mechanical Engineer - 248892JSUS

A Production Engineering team with an objective of ensuring the reliability of future products in the market; therefore providing quality information and acting proactively, including stringent failure analyses; is looking for an Engineer to provide support to diesel engine products or derivatives thereof. Working with others to resolve problems related to the design of diesel or derivative engine components, and systems or the functional behavior of the engine. The Engineer will apply engineering principles to improve engines, components and software.

This position has a high level of complexity, involving work in hands on vehicle testing atmosphere and testing at offsite locations where they will work under existing ambient conditions. The demand may require working irregular and/or excessive hours (more than ten). Fine motor control is required to operate offsite test equipment.

The performance of essential duties will involve working on and around power equipment, under actual operating conditions during which the Engineer will experience noise, fumes, vibration and engine radiated heat. This task will require climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling and reaching.

Job Functions include:

Reporting tasks: Provide information for daily reports; Present results of reliability growth activities to engineering in order to improve development of the engine and vehicle

Engineering tasks: Troubleshoot engine and engine related issues; Experimental hardware and software for evaluation; Support replacement parts inventory/part logistics; Schedule component updates; Monitor and maintain fuel/oil supply; Coordinate modification of instrumentation and modification of engine/vehicles

Function failure analysis and corrective action reporting (FiNAS+FACAR+ZEUSS)

Analyze moderately complex problems and job assignments in preparing project plans

Product verification and validation

Create and update project plans

Schedule time according to established job priorities

Conduct vehicle experiments to determine hardware, software and calibration parameter specifications that best meet the technical performance requirements of the project

Use analytical tools and models to assist in determining hardware, software and calibration specifications that best meet the technical performance requirements of the project

Provide test instructions to technicians and advises shop personnel of instrumentation needs

Participate in the team's failure analyses reviews

Complete project work, draw conclusions and make recommendations

Provide management with regular reports on project work plans and status for information and resource management purposes

Maintain a neat workplace and organized information files pertaining to project work assignments

Perform special projects as assigned

Required Skills for this Engine Mechanical Engineer position includes the following:

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Master's preferred) or related field

5 years of engineering experience

Microsoft Office proficiency

Ability to work in conjunction with team members both in immediate and other project teams, also able to work effectively with others having diverse backgrounds and experiences

Interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills:

Development testing and analysis experience

Ability to use shop tools and mechanical/electronic instruments

Experience in a large truck manufacturing company

Emissions testing and analysis experience

Knowledge of engine control systems

Knowledge of performance engineering tools, for example MARC, Drumroll, and Cal Tools

Knowledge of combustion engines

Ability to manage satellite activities, including technician shop interface

Willingness to train others and share knowledge on reliability development topics or other areas of expertise

Ability to travel - domestic and foreign
